LA CROSSE, Wis. –  The wife of La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat, Christy K. Kabat, 52, was charged with disorderly conduct for an encounter in the middle of a downtown street. Police submitted video of Kabat approaching a van, striking the vehicle, and yelling at the driver. Then she reached inside the driver’s side, and scratched both his arms. The driver pepper-sprayed the First Lady and drove away. Apparently Kabat was upset that the man had steered too close to protestors angered about the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd a few days earlier. The downtown LaCrosse incident was May 30. A court date for Kavat: July 21 before county Judge Elliott Levine. The charge carries a maximum penalty of $1,000 and 90 days in jail.
