GARRISON, Minn. — A Plymouth man landed a near-56 pound muskie in Lake Mille Lacs – a state record. Nolan Sprengeler said he had made a final 90-mile trip of the season to the lake just as shore waters were beginning to ice up. The precise weight: 55 pounds, 14.8 ounces, Sprengeler’s catch came about 9 p.m on a cast to a rock reef with large soft-plastic bait. He hooked the fish deep. With the help of a friend, he needed an hour reel it in. The previous Minnesota record, 54 pounds, was set on Lake Winnibigoshish in 1957. The world record, however, belongs to Wisconsin — 69-pound, 11-ounce muskie in 1949 from the Chippewa Flowage.
