WINONA, Minn. –A Winona man was arrested after an assault Saturday in the Latsch Island houseboat neighborhood. Police went after Thomas J. Lince, 44, after the victim, a neighbor, showed up at the hospital with fresh blood on his beard and mouth, as well swelling in his right eye and blood coming from his eyebrow. Three lower teeth were broken and pointing backward. The man said he had been punched repeatedly despite pleading for mercy. A doctor stitched his eyebrow, wired in his teeth and treated for a broken face bone. The beating began, the man said, when he asked Lince to stop being obnoxiously loud. He said the assailant fled in a boat. Asked the next day whether he had punched the man, Lance denied a physical altercation, police said. They arrested him any way for unexplained swelling and cuts on his left hand.  There was no resistance.

Lince. Third-degree assault charged.
