FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. – Fire ravaged a downtown multi-family house, sending two occupants into the street, where one of them had seizure and died. Authorities didn’t release the name of the victim but said he was 62-year-old man visiting from across state in Kenosha. Witnesses said the man had no noticeable injuries when he had emerged from the burning building. The other person, a 25-year-old Fountain City man, was not injured. The building, a two-story structure, was destroyed. The building once housed a hair salon on the street. Local volunteer firefighters arrived about midnight from their firehouse a block away. They battled the blaze several hours in sub-zero temperatures. Neighboring buildings were saved. Firefighters came from as far as 20 miles away, from Alma, Arcadia, Cochrane, Dodge and Winona. The fire was South Main Street on a fork off U.S. Highway 35, which was closed several hours. Fire Chief Tom Hentges said the fire did not appear to be suspicious in nature, but the state fire marshal was summoned.
