WINONA, Minn. — Police brought an East End man to the ground as he resisted arrest with bizarre behavior, this after a domestic assault that had been called in. As officers attempted to move the man to a squad car, he first refused to walk, then hoisted his arms over his head with clinched fists – an aggressive posture, officers said — and proclaimed: “I am the devil” and “Ever seen what evil looks like, really looks like?” One officer took a kick to the groin. Subdued finally was Shane Lee Dean Peterson, age 36.

911 call from bathroom

Police had been called to a house in the 600 block of East Wabasha Street about 5:20 p.m. A woman told the 911 dispatcher that she had locked herself in a bathroom to protect herself. When police arrived, the woman said that Peterson had been drinking all day and came home heavily intoxicated from a neighborhood bar and passed out on the lawn. She dragged him inside out of the rain. He then became  erratic and making no sense, she said,  and following her around the house and grabbing her and ripping her shirt. That, she said, was when she locked herself in the bathroom and telephoned for help. She showed officers a bleeding scratch on an arm.

Bevy of charges

Peterson was booked into jail about 6:20 p.m. Police recommended these offenses for prosecution:

> Dometic assault causing fear.

> Domestic assault causisg harm.

> Assault on a police officer

> Obstructing the legal process.
