WINONA, Minn. – A new exhibit, “Northern Waters,” runs through January 2 at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. The focus is photographs and video exploring Lake Superior’s North Shore, its tributaries and surrounding waters over the course of four seasons in their many moods. Among exhibitors is Dudley Edmondson, an author, wildlife photographer, and filmmaker from Duluth. Edmondson’s passion, he says, is nature and getting people of color outdoors. Edmondson is the author of the book “Black & Brown Faces in American Wild Places” He intended the book as an outdoor lifestyle template for African-Americans.

Edmondson. He traces his love of outdoors to high school in Ohio, when a yeacher took his class on a birding trip. “Unusual for urban youth of color,” he says.
