WINONA, Wis. – Mayor Scott Sherman greeted a rail advocacy group departing by train for Milwaukee to check out the current passenger service in and out of Winona. The group has been pushing for an additional round trip daily train between Chicago and St. Paul via Winona. “Great idea,” said Sherman.”We have three colleges here in Winona, and we believe it’ll help with the college students getting back and forth from school,” He noted too that the current once-daily Empire Builder roundtrip has inconvenient schedules for commuting.
All aboard. The Great River Rail Commission organized the trip to insect the quality of existing service and to understand frequent delays. Their roundtrip tickets: $76, which underscored the affordability of rail travel.
