WINONA, Minn. – Police arrested Drew Stephen Bawek, 32, of Winona, after an assault on Latsch Island and a chase through Winona streets. It didn’t help, officer said, that he flung a middle finger at them. The Latsch Island incident, about 1 p.m., involved an assault. When officers arrived, Bawek was gone, reportedly headed over the Mississippi River bridge to Winona on a motor scooter. Officers tried to pull him over at Huff Street and Broadway but, they said, he diverted onto Harriet Street. In the end he stopped on the 350 block of West Sanborn Street. Charges of fleeing in a motor vehicle and assault charge were recommended to the county prosecutor.
