LAKE CRYSTAL, Minn. – Jeremy Munson distanced himself and his congressional campaign from political consultant Cliff Maloney Jr. who has been accused of rape. Munson acknowledged that he knew Maloney was part of a firm that he hired to develop a door-to-door campaign strategy but that it was not Maloney with whom he worked. In an interview with the Minnesota Post, Munson said he worked only with Justin Griess. Griess and Maloney are partners in the consulting firm 5411 LLC, which operates out of Maloney’s Florida home. Maloney had been president of the libertarian group Young Americans for Liberty and Griess vice president when both were asked to step down in 2021. This was amid a sex scandal that has led to criminal charges against Maloney. To the Minnesota Post last week, Munson insisted that Maloney is not part of his campaign for Congress. Munson explained that YAL had helped him in his 2020 state House campaign. This year, Munson said, he “made phone calls” to Maloney before launching. “I don’t know people in Washington, D.C. and was trying to find a good consultant,” Munson said. He then hired the 5411 firm or $11,000, Munson noted that the allegations against Maloney were from a decade ago. The incident didn’t happen recently, Munson said. . He called the case “really disturbing news.” He added emphatically that Maloney won’t be involved in his campaign in any way.
