ST. PAUL, Wis. – As the Legislature was winding up its 2022 session, Governor Tim Walz signed 21 bills into law. One bill, called Free the Growler, allows craft brewers to sell more product out the door to consumers directly. Under the new law, they will be allowed to sell 64-ounce growler jugs and 32-ounce crowler cans. These sales had not been permitted by brewers grown too large to do so under the current law. The loosened restrictions have been a lobbying goal of smaller and medium brewers for eight years. The new law also lifts restrictions that limited on small distillers to small bottles.

A bin of pens. Governor Tim Walz signs a bevy of new laws that won bipartisan approval in the Legislature. At his side: Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan.
