WINONA, Minn. – The latest scam making the rounds in Winona has a caller claiming to be from the Verizon telephone company and threatening to cut off service. The message: Send money now or else. Police spokesperson Jay Rasmussen said one person reported sending $1,500 before realizing it might be a scam. Another person took a similar call out of the blue, this for $1,800, but realized in time that it was a trick.
