WINONA, Minn. – The number of beds available at Winona Health’s nursing home has been trimmed due to a staffing shortage. Rachelle Schutz, the hospital’s chief executive, blames the Lake Winona Manor staffing shortage on Covid. A backlog is building statewide of people needing nursing-home care, Schultz said in a KWNO interview. Winona Health is not immune, she said. “It’s a struggle as people are waiting in hospitals, trying to get into a nursing home bed, and there are no beds available,” Schultz said. This, she said, puts a further strain on dwindling hospital capacity. When fully staffed, Lake Winona Manor’s capacity is 125.
