LODI, Wis. – A pickup truck rammed the butt of guardrail, which impaled the vehicle all the way through to the bed in back and critically injured a passenger. The passenger was extricated by Lodi first-responders and transported 25 miles to a Madison hospital. Deputies said a caller notified them around 3:20 p.m. that a guardrail was inside a vehicle, that a passenger was injured, and that the driver appeared drunk. They found the guardrail went through the engine compartment of the 2003 GMC Sierra. This was 1-1/2 miles northeast of Lodi, on Lindsay Road just off State Highway 60. The driver, Peter Robinson, 58, was booked for driving drunk and causing injury. It was his third drunk-driving offense, deputies said.

Metal through metal. Impact drove guardrail through engine compartment, into cab, and out the back.
