ROCHESTER, Minn. – A fire crew extinguished a fire at a southwest house and then discovered a dog overcome by smoke on the second floor. They rushed the dog outside and opened an animal life-saving kit, including oxygen masks. Too far gone, the dog died. The fire call was about 1;45 p.m. in the 6100 block of Pointe Dive. One person was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. Fire damage was mostly in the kitchen.

Rescue huddle. Firefighters pulled an oxygen resuscitation kit for dogs and cats from the green bag in a futile attempt to save a dog that had been trapped in the house.
