THURMAN, Iowa –Two cadaver hounds detected the scent of human remains across four different sites at a Fremont County farm where dozens of women reportedly were murdered. “I really think there’s bones there,” Sheriff Kevin Aistrope said, correcting his earlier doubts. “It’s hard for me to believe that two dogs would hit in the exact same places and be false,” the sheriff said. He added a caveat: “We don’t know what it is. The settlers were up there. There was Indian country up there as well.” The dogs’ handler, Jim Peters, said the dogs definitely picked up the odor of human decomposition According to the dogs, he said, this is a “very large” burial site. According to a child witness, 50 to 70 bodies were dumped over many years in a well and civered with lime to hasten their dissolution.
