BUFFALO, Minn. – The online retailer Amazon offered $5,000 to a Buffalo family whose dog Jakey was kicked and fatally injured by a delivery driver. The money is not enough, says the family. They want assurances that Amazon will institute proper driver training.

About Jakey
Jakey was a9-year-old female rottweiler. The family told television station KMSP that she was “very gentle” She had been a therapy dog in hospitals and nursing homes her first three years. The Franks liveson eight acres on outskirts Buffalo. Jakey and two other dogs were free to roam. The family comoripes the mother Katrina, her husband, five children — and now the two remaining dogs.The family is devastated, said Katrina Frank. The 6-year-old and 8-year-old children won’t stay at the house right now because they don’t want to come home from school without Jakey to greet them.
A sad incident
The incident occurred on October 19. This is Karina Frank’s account: A car pulled into the driveway. A woman with an Amazon vest got out with a package. The family’s three dogs approached the car, tails wagging, to greet the visitor. The woman, seeing the dogs, started screaming. The driver got out of the car and started kicking Jakey in the stomach. Jakey turned and headed confused toward Katrina. The driver began punching Jakey and threw rocks at all three dogs. Jakey survived two weeks, then needed to be euthanized.
Amazon response
Amzaon expressed sympathy to the family: “We’re deeply saddened to hear of Jakey’s passing, and we’ll continue coordinating with the family to support them as we have since this was first reported.” About i-the incident, Amazon said it’s employee indicated she was scared during the encounter with Jakey. She is still doing deliveries for Amazon. The company said it was not clear whether the other person in the car, who attacked Jakey, was an employee.
