TRUAX FIELD, Wis. – The first Wisconsin National Guard F-16 Falcon jet fighter ever stationed at Truax Field, back in 1993, blasted off the the last time. The plane’s retirement opens way for a fleet of replacement fighters – the F-35 Lightning. The F35s will beguin arriving next year. Deputy Adjutant General David May described the upgrade as “moving from a flip phone to a smartphone.” There will be 18 F-35a at Truax. The F-16 fleet had numbered 21.
