BISMARCK, N.D. — A federal appeals court has temporarily halted a judge’s order that the Dakota Access Pipeline be shut down in three weeks. Importantly the appeals court noted that was not ruling on the merits of the case against the pipeline. Rather, the Court said it merely wanted to give more time to the pipeline company, Energy Transfer, to argue that the shutdown should not be made permanent. Meanwhile, oil from the North Dakota Bakken field will keep flowing the 1,100 miles through the Upper Missouri River drainage.
