MINNEAPOLIS — The City Council voted 7-6 to bring in 20 to 40 police officers, probably from the sheriff’s office, to cover vacancies. The 830-officer city police force has 121 officers on leave, almost 15%. Many of the leaves are for trauma during protests over George Floyd’s death in May. The Council approved $500,000 for the temporary loan of officers from the sheriff’s office.
