WINONA, Minn. – Expect more police squad cars on highways over the Labor Day weekend, said Sheriff Ron Ganrude. His deputies and others statewide are cooperating in the Minesota State Patrol’s “Dying to Get Home” campaign. The state’s traffic fatality reached 300 on August 29 – the earliest in 14 years. Ganrude said the major contributors are speeding, driving while impaired, not belting up, and becoming distracted.
