ALBERT LEA, Minn. –An Albert lea man who drove through a barbed wire fence to evade police has been sentenced to 20 months in prison. Brandon Stanley Johnson, 39, had pleaded guilty to fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle after the incident January 12. A deputy tried to stop Johnson around 2:25 a.m. for driving with no lights. Johnson sped away. With the deputy tight on his tail, he drove through a barbed wire fence, then became stuck in the snow. Why flee? Police said that Johnson was driving a vehicle stolen from Virgil’s Tow and Travel in Albert Lea. Among the original charges: Criminal damage to property. Yes, the fence needed mending.
