ST. PAUL, Minn. – Demonstrators mounted a protest outside the home of state Representative Carlos Mariani in an extension of radical right-wing protests at the Capitol Wednesday. Mariani, a Democrat, said about 100 whites in MAGA hats blocked the street with trucks. Some carried guns and wore military-style clothing, he said. Mariani has an advocacy record for students of color. After the protest at his house, Mariani wrote online: “Terrorism has many faces. Democracy is fragile. We must stand together.” Another protest occurred Saturday against a judge who approved a consent decree last summer that made voting by mail easier during the pandemic, according to John Harrington, the state public safety commissioner. Harrington did not identify the judge. The commissioner said he has alerted all police chiefs and sheriffs statewide that his department is tracking that sort of activity.
