NEW YORK — The Minneapolis teenager who recorded the police restraint and death of George Floyd on her cellphone, helping to launch a global movement to protest racial injustice, was awarded a special citation by the Pulitzer Prize committee. A Pulitzer is journalism’s highest honor. Darnella Frazier, 17 at the time, was cited for courageous reporting. Earlier Frazier was honored by PEN America, a literary and human rights organization. Suzanne Nossel, PEN chief executive: “With nothing more than a cellphone and sheer guts, Frazier changed the course of history, sparking a bold movement demanding an end to systemic anti-black police racism and violence.
