LACROSSE, Wis. – Donald X. Logelin, 98, of La Crosse, who with his wife operated a heating, air-conditioning and fuel oil business in Reedsburg for 39 years, died at the Veterans hospital in Tomah. He grew up in Minneapolis but left home at 15 and knocked around the country, winding up as up as a door-to-door Fuller Brush salesman in New York City at 17. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps after Pearl Harbor and flew the Burma Hump from India to China as a flight radio operator in a C-46. He made 103 round trips and accumulated 815 combat hours. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross twice and the Air Medal four times. After his discharge, he went to Dunwoody Industrial Institute to learn heating and air-conditioning. In 1989 the Reedsburg business was sold sold. With the help of a son, an electrical engineer, he he designed a program for small businesses. They sold and updated the program for 11 years.
