WINONA, Minn. – Gerald J. Langowski, age 87, of Winona, who chaired the Modern Language Department at Saint Mary’s College in Winona for 34 years, died at the Winona hospital. He was a graduate of Saint Mary’s. As the college’s first recipient of a Fulbright scholarship he attended the University of Chile in Santiago. He held a doctorate in Spanish and Spanish American literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was at home in scholarly journals of his field and and wrote  books. He was president of the Polish Heritage Society in Winona and chronicled the history of Polish settlers.
