HOKAH, Minn. — Harley “Jim” Kuhlmann, 94, of Hokah, a two-term mayor Hokah, died at Valley View Healthcare in Houston. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, at age 17, two days after graduating from high school. He held jobs at La Crosse Rubber Mills, the Milwaukee railroad, Trane, and Midwest Gas. He owned and managed the Hokah IGA grocery. He also worked at Hokah Cheese Factory, Bailey Paper, and Ready Bus. In retirement he did meat cutting for the Quillins grocery store in La Crescent. As Hokah mayor he took pride in the Como Park restoration.
