WINONA, Minn. – Jams Fitzmaurice, of Winona, a Saint Mary’s University literature professor, died at age 90. His gospel was that good writing took hard work. Over the years he amassed a book collection large enough to fill a small library. He wrote poetry, much of which was published. He loved learning. He was a Korean War-era military veteran stationed in Germany. He frequently visited Europe. On one trip he purchased a VW van in Germany, drove and camped across Europe, then shipped the van back to the States. The green VW bus soon became synonymous with Fitzmaurice everywhere he went.
