SAN JOSE, Calif. — Laura Isabella Newell Sylvan, 54, died at from an acute pulmonary embolism. She grew up in rural Bluff Siding, Wisconsin, on Chicken Valley Road. She graduated from Cochrane-Fountain City High School with honors and attended St. Olaf College as a music major. She earned a degree summa cum laude from Santa Clara University in California in English and German studies. She was an Eagle Scout parent and a homeschooling teacher.
