WINONA, Minn. – Mary Rose Thoen, 71, of Winona, who was named Winona Teacher of the Year in 1986, died at a Mayo Clinic hospital. She was a graduate of Cotter High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from Winona State and a master’s from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire She taught at Winona High School and also at Saint Mary’s University, Winona State, and Southeast Technical College in Winona. She operated the Professional Center for secretarial, answering and resume services from 1980 to 1992. For 22 years she ran the Guest Hus Inn bed and breakfast in Lanesboro. She was an active Republican.
