BLOOMER, Wis.  — At first Tricia and Brian Hurt and their son Brady thought they saw a dog swimming out on Marshmiller Lake. But no. It was a baby black bear in trouble, its head stuck in a plastic choose ball container. The bear was having problems getting air. The Hurst, who had been fishing, went to the rescue. Their first attempt to pull the container off the bear’s head failed. A second try succeeded. The bear, panting, made it to shore. It turned out that locals had seen the bear and the cheese-ball jug in the area for several days but hadn’t figured out what to do about it. The Hurts, from Bloomer, think the bear, a 1-year-old cub, would have drowned if they hadn’t come across it.
