PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota farmers have averaged only 1-1/2 days suitable for fieldwork so far this spring, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s state crop progress report, That compares with 2-1/2 days most years. The result: Crops are going in late. In fact, farmers have not planted any corn or wheat. Nationwide, this year’s corn planting is 4% completed, two points behind the five-year average. Wheat planting nationwide is close to average at 8%.
