DOVER, Minn. – A dry spell and hot weather have hurt the state’s crop production, but the Minnesota Crop Progress and Condition Report says there are exceptions, particularly in southeast counties that escaped the worst of the drought. Soybeans are more than a week ahead of usual with 38% rated good to excellent. Corn is doing well too. Ben Storm, a farmer with 1,500 soybean and corn acres near Dover in Olmsted County, told television station KAAL that timely rains helped. “We got done combining a field yesterday that was probably the best bean I’ve raised on it,” Storm said. He admitted to sleepless nights like a spell of 90-degree says in June. “The corn was all shriveled up,” Storm said. The corn is now partially harvested and looking all right, he said.
