ST. PAUL, Minn. – Because of the late spring, the state wildlife agency has closed parts of northern Minnesota streams for fishing to protect walleye and other fish whose breeding is running late. Seasons for suckers and some rough fish are unaffected, the Department of Natural Resources said. The duration of the closures varies but run as late as June 30. So do parts of the streams that are closed.
Affected waters
> Beltrami County (Bemidji county seat): Black Duck Lake, Black Duck River, Coburn Creek, Mississippi River, Shotley Brook, Tamarack River, Turtle River.
> Becker County (Detroit Lakes): Southwest Bay.
> Clearwater Cunty (Bagley): Lake Maud, Pelican River.
> Cook County (Grand Marais): Cross River. Junco Creek, Little Gunflint Lake, Little North Lakes channels.
> Douglas County (Alexandria): Dittberner Creek, Lake Miltona tributaries, Perry Lang Bay, Northwest Bay, Lake Ida to Lake Charlie flowage, Maligne River, Northern Lights Rapids, Saganaka Falls, Sea Gull River, Tait River.
> Hubbard County (Park Rapids): Between Big Sand Lake and Emma Lake.
> St. Louis County (Duluth): Bear Island River, Birch River, Burntside River, Everett Creek, Shagawa River.
> Otter Tail County (Fergus Falls): Dead River, Jewell Lake, Toad River.
