STOCKHOLM, Wis. – This artsy village, carved into Mississippi River bluffs, is planning its first Lake Pepin Pride festival June 11-13. Organizer Jennifer Lindahl said the event is Stockholm’s way to demonstrate that not all small-town America is wary of gays: “Rural communities get such a bad rap for being homophobic, racist. That is not Stockholm, and we are standing up against that.” By her count, a third of of Stockholm, population 66, is gay.

Crafts and pies. In a town on Highway 35 with a speed limit but no stoplights and more shops per capita than you’d expect. Take a load off your feet and savor an ice cream cone.
