WINONA, Minn. – Most people in these parts call it the Full Sturgeon Moon. It also goes by Corn Moon, Harvest Moon, Ricing Moon and Black Cherries Moon. Whatever it’s called, astronomers can delight when the full moon peaks at 7:02 a.m. on Sunday if clouds permit. The moon also will look full on Saturday. All the names come from Native American tradition. Sturgeon Moon comes from the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain that are caught readily in late summer.
