UTICA, Minn. – The guy was speeding, so, a deputy said, he stopped him. It turned out, the deputy said, that the driver was Alturo Perez, 42, of Lewiston, who had a record of arrests for drunken driving. This time too he was drunk. Deputies said his blood-alcohol level was 0.12% — half again as much as legally allowed. Also, police said, Perez also failed field sobriety tests, his eyes were droopy, his balance was unsteady, and he smelled of alcohol. This was about 4:15 a.m. on U.S. Highway 14 at Cemetery Road between Lewiston and Utica. As a repeat offender, Perez faces a felony charge.
