ROCHESTER, Minn. – A July trial date has been set for a personal injury lawsuit that blames the school for a 12-year-old boy’s injuries in an ice broomball game. The boy’s father, Jeffrey Hivela, alleges head injuries, including deafness in one ear. He seeks $50,000 at minimum. The boy fell and struck his head on the ice during a gym class at Adams Middle School, according to the suit. The father says the school failed to provide protective equipment. The Rochester school district has denied negligence.
