FARGO, N.D. – A livestock marketing economist, Tim Petry at North Dakota State University, said that turkey price are the highest producers have seen in years. Prices are up 17 cents a pound from last year, Petry noted that the higher prices at mass-butcher processors aren’t necessarily passed on to consumers. Many stores, he said, sell turkeys as loss leaders whose loss is offset with high mark-up items that also go on Thanksgiving platters.
