WINNEPEG, Manitoba — A about 250 ex-pats from Gujarat met online for prayers for the Indian family that died in the prairie cold last week. The vigil was organized by Hemant Shah of Winnepeg, himself an expat. He didn’t know the deceased but said he nonetheless was devastated. Even in urban Winnepeg, 110 miles away from the tragedy, winter is not a season to test fate. “With the weather now in Winnipeg, we don’t dare go out,” Shah said. “Even thinking about the pain they might have experienced in freezing cold temperatures gives us goosebumps.”
