EAST GULL LAKE, Minn. — The State Senate majority leader, Paul Gazelka, said he had hoped to hear in Governor Walz’ State of the State address when the governor will ease off wielding his executive powers against the CoVid pandemic. “We think they should have been lifted long ago, but when will he do it?” said Gazelka, R-East Gull Lake. For months Republicans have bristled at Walz’ restrictions on small businesses to slow CoVid transmission. Walz is a Democrat. Said Gazelka: “We’re asking the governor for clear guidance of when he will lift the emergency powers.” Gazelka also said it’s wrong to over-credit Walz for all the progress against the virus. It was, said Zazelka, President Donald Trump, a Republican, who shepherded rapid development of vaccines.
