LACROSSE,Wis. — Once-thriving Valley View regional mall all in suburban Onalaska will go up for a court-ordered auction next month. The sprawling structure, which housed five anchor stores and 80 shops in its heyday, has been in bankruptcy court for months. Now the judge has scheduled a public auction at 10 a.m., March 8, at the LaCrosse Courthouse. The 40-year-old 600,000 square foot structure is valued at $27 million. The buyer will be required to accept the indebtedness of PREIT, the financially troubled owner of the mall and 20 other malls around the country.

Grocery bright spot
The Iowa-based grocery chain Hy-Vee continues remodeling the abandoned Sears retail store at Valley View Mall. He-Vee bought the space for $2.4 million in 2020.
