WASHINGTON — Besides possible appointment as the next U.S. attorney general, Amy Klobuchar is on President-elect Joe Biden’s Cabinet short list for secretary of agriculture. Klobuchar is from the agriculturally rich Midwest Breadbasket state of Minnesota. She is a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture. As a presidential candidate in 2020, Klobuchar favored linking farm subsidies to the cost of production, which would likely increase how much farmers receive. Klobuchar also favored greater funding for disaster relief as well as spending more on conservation programs for environment-friendly farm practices. She also backed more taxpayer support toward farmers’ premiums for crop insurance.
