WASHINGTON – Both of Minnesota’s U.S. senators, Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, want answers from the postmaster general on what’s gone berserk with Rochester mail deliveries. There have been growing complaints about missing, delayed and irregular deliveries. Some businesses have gone three days between deliveries. The regional postal director, Anthony Williams, blames post-CoVid staff shortages. Dozens of part-time and full-time employees are being hired, he said. Meanwhile, the whole postal system has been slowed by cost-cutting steps by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. In 2020 he ordered the dismantling of sorting equipment in major distribution centers.
