AUSTIN, Minn. – Bed bugs showed up at Austin High School one day last week. Remedial measures were taken. But no advisory was sent out. The next day students sent videos home. Another day later many parents kept their kids home and demanded that the principal bring in an exterminator. What to do if a child brings bed bugs home. Vacuum their bodies head to toe. The critters are visible, about the size of an apple seed — and larger when engorged with blood.
Bed bug profile
If infected, go home and change shoes and clothes before entering. Monitor and vacuum beds once a month. It’s best to have a vacuum with heavy filter to pick up and contain the bugs and empty the canister immediately – and do it outside immediately and far away.
