WINONA, Minn. – The Winona hospital has had a surge of patients and is expecting an additional strain on resources from Covid following the Thanksgiving weekend. Rachelle Schultz, chief executive at Winona Health, said she has reconvened her medical staff committee to prepare. In November, Schultz said in a KWNO interview, hospitalizations nearly tripled. As the calendar flips to December, Schultz said capacity remains tight and new Covid cases from Thanksgiving travel and family gathering has yet to show. The medical staff committee, she said, will try to project capacity and assess resources. “Thirty to 40% of our patients have Covid that are coming in and what we are seeing is these folks that are coming in are really sick,” Schultz said.
