BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. – A woman from nearby Brockway was charged with homicide for the stabbing the death of her 53-year-old live-in manfriend. The charge against 53-year-old Kellie Schmidt: First-degree intentional homicide as an act of domestic abuse while using a dangerous weapon. The criminal complaint mentions that Schmidt convicted of substantial battery with the use of a dangerous weapon in 2018. The current case involves the death of Thomas Boetcher, 53, on September 9. Deputies found Boetcher bleeding from an apparent stab wound in his arm. Boetcher was taken to the Black River hospital and then flown to the Marshfield regional trauma center, where he died almost as soon as he arrived. Schmidt, who had been living with Boetcher for a month, was wounded herself and taken to the Black River hospital and then to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire with injuries. When she was released from the hospital, Jackson County deputies took her into custody. She was jailed kin on a $1 million bond.
