AUSTIN, Minn. – A firefighter pulled a woman out of East Side Lake after she had fallen through the ice. Police Chief David McKichan said the woman was unresponsive and not breathing. Authorities were called about 10:30 p.m. by a witness who heard screams.  It was dark and foggy, which slowed officers in locating the woman. When she was spotted bobbing in the water, there at first seemed no way to safely get out to her. When the woman was reached, she was beginning to submerge and “was just visible enough to be found,” McKichan said. Police were unsure why he woman was out so late on the 40-acre lake. She had parked her car and walked a third of the way out onto the lake.
