WINONA, Minn. – To address Winona State’s enrollment crisis, university President Scott Olson has created a high-level new administrative position – recruitment specialist. Named to the position was Andrea Northam, who has been with the university since 2006. Northam remains also as interim public relations vice president at $88,800. The new position is temporary, Olson said. Its purpose: “To support the great work being done by our teams in admissions and enrollment management.” Since 2012, enrollment has slipped 22% and is expected to be off 25.5%, to 6,300, over the next two years. Olson called Northam’s new responsibilities “cross functional.” The function had been wholly in the bailiwick of Denise McDowell as vice president for enrollment management and student life. As Olson explained Northam’s role: “To review and reimagine current processes, partnerships, and collateral, as well as provide additional support to the teams as they augment and enhance their operations.”

She has worked in Winona State marketing and communications since 2006. She holds bachelor’s degrees in English literature and Spanish from Truman State University and a master’s in educational leadership from Winona State.
