WINONA, Minn. – Winona State has made modest progress toward its diversity goals in the past year but also suffered setbacks. The university’s fall enrollment report showed these percentages for targeted student cohorts:

> First-generation college students: 36.3% of all students (off  0.4%).

> Students qualifying as needy by Pell Grant criteria: 29.8% of all students (off 1.3%).

> Students of color: 15.1% of all students (up 0.8%).

> Non-traditional students (ge 25-plus): 9.8% of all students (off 0.8%).

> Foreign students: 2.1% of all students (up 0.2%)

Fall enrollment data show first-year retention rate for students of color grew 2.3%. Their fifth-year graduation rate grew 0.9%. The retention of students of color, however, lagged significantly behind white students.
