MINNEAPOLIS – The father of the man killed in a police shooting, Bayle Gelle, said officers came to his family’s home earlier Wednesday and announced they had a warrant. “They were screaming. It was loud. There was a bunch of guys, at least 20,” he said. He did not specify what agency was involved. “They were pushing us down, screaming, and said, ‘Don’t move.’” After Gelle gave his account to reporters, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed that its agents, along with Hennepin County deputies, had executed the search warrant but differed on details:
“The BCA and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on December 30 at an Eden Prairie residence related to the BCA’s ongoing investigation of the Minneapolis incident. Hennepin County sheriff’s deputies entered first to secure the home, during which time (approximately 15 minutes) adults inside the home were placed in flexible handcuffs (in front of their body). Once the home was secured, BCA agents entered the home, removed the handcuffs and the warrant was executed. Because this is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time.”
Eden Prairie is a southwest suburb of Minneapolis, about 10 miles from the south Minneapolis neighborhood where the shooting occurred.
